An 18-year-old comes to your house one day. They say that they are your biological child and they want to connect with their biological parent. What do you say?

If an 18-year-old appeared at my doorstep claiming to be my biological child and expressing a desire to connect, my initial reaction would likely be shock and surprise. I would need a moment to gather my thoughts and emotions before responding. Assuming the claim is true, I would want to approach the situation with empathy, understanding, and sensitivity.

First and foremost, I would invite them inside to sit down and talk. I would express gratitude for their courage in reaching out and acknowledge the significance of the moment for both of us. I would assure them that I am open to building a relationship and getting to know them, but I would also be honest about any emotions or concerns I may have.

I would explain that while I may not have been aware of their existence until now, I am committed to being there for them moving forward. I would want to learn about their life, experiences, and interests, and share my own story with them as well. Additionally, I would offer support in whatever capacity they may need, whether it's guidance, advice, or simply a listening ear.

Ultimately, I would emphasize the importance of honesty, communication, and mutual respect in our relationship going forward. Building a connection with a biological child at this stage in life would undoubtedly come with challenges, but I would be willing to put in the effort to nurture a meaningful bond and provide the support and love they deserve.
